TV Rant

Okay, I really wish American Idol weren't on Faux just so we didn't support them when we watched it. That said, there were commericals from show called The Swan last night. Didn't watch it, but from what I could tell about the show:

1. They pick 17 women and convince them that they're ugly.
2. They have plastic surgeons work on the women without any consultation with the women themselves, as if there are all just things to be shaped like clay.
3. They prevent the women from seeing themselves until they're ready to humiliate them on TV by watching them cry over their new "pretty" selves.
4. They then go on to have a contest between the women so they can tell 16 of the 17, "Hey, you may be 'pretty' now, but you're still not pretty enough to be our finalist!"

Sick. Just plain sick.

Seems like such a small price to pay for never having any problems in your life again. Hello! These women get to be pretty! Don't you realize that is all that counts?

I think there's a philosphical -- but outlandish -- defense to be made for not letting the women have a say in what they will look like: people with fantastic skin and bones didn't get to choose them either, it just happened to them.

I saw 2 minutes of that show and turned it off in digust. Between that and cancelling Wonderfalls, I'm about ready to give up on Fux. If it weren't for The Simpsons I wouldn't watch the network at all.

Iwas pretty disgusted by that show too. I switched to video games as soon as American Idol was over.

Heh. I watched the show. The women sort of say why they want to be "The Swan" and say part of what they want changed. The doctors take some of that into consideration. And how this show works is that they profile two women an episode. And at teh end of the show, only one of the two women go on to the pageant. Sort of like, You were ugly and now we made you pretty but you are SO ugly, that even after we made you pretty you were too ugly to be in the pageant. Also, it sort of says you weren't pretty enough to be in a pageant until we did this work on you.

3 months of their life gone and they can only do so much. Sure the outside may have changed but even after all the surgeries the girls from last night didn't have poise. Just sit and look pretty and don't open your mouth or say anything.

i saw the preview for this thing and couldn't believe it. it's apparently all about totally depriving these women of any self esteem what so ever.

hey, you're ugly, let us fix you, ah hell even with all that work you are still hideous.

my question is why would they agree to this in the first place?
