Had the plumbers back out yesterday morning to check it, they did, said I should have hot water in a hour. Nope. So, had them back out in the afternoon where the discovered the guy who installed it didn't wait until the tank was full before connecting the electricity, which burned out the upper heating element (these are apparently notoriously finicky). So they drained the system again, replaced the upper heating element, refilled it, and voila, we now have hot water. And, unlike the previous (broken) heater, I can't keep the faucet on the nothing-but-hot-water setting or it'll be scalding (at the default factory heat setting). Huzzah!
