Parachutes

I purchased a copy of What Color is Your Parachute for a friend this morning and I thought about leaving it out on my desk today, but then thought that might be unnecessarily cruel to my poor boss. ;)

30 minutes on the elliptical trainer. All I have to say is I'm soooo glad I have the iPod now because otherwise I'd have had to endure that damned Milkshake song, among others. That made an otherwise very dull experience (I'd so much rather be outside running - all things in their time) bearable. No eye candy this morning at the gym, but that's okay.

Memorials

To live in the District of Columbia is to live in a city of memory. At least when one visits "official" DC and the area around the National Mall.

The World War II Memorial opened this morning, a month ahead of its official dedication on Memorial Day, May 31st, 2004. The early opening is because of the death rate of these men and women, most of whom are in their 70s and 80s.

As part of the whole memorial project the web site is providing a registry of veterans for family members to list and/or search for their relatives who served. I searched for my grandfather, who passed away about eight years ago and who was not yet listed, and then called my father to let him know about the URL, and to ask him to post his step-father's information on the site.

It is seldom that I really, truly value the fact that I have an office with a door. Looking over the memorial design on the

Allergic

I finally saw an allergist today. Been wanting to for years, but doctors had poo-pooed the suggestion and not given me a referral. Now that I have "referral free health insurance" (aka BlueCross BlueShield) I just did it myself.

The initial scratches were inconclusive, so they did a "mix" test, where they inject a mix of possible allergens just under the skin (weed mix, tree mix, cat, dog, roach, mold, dust, etc.). Long story short, they all swelled up nicely on me. Which basically means I'm allergic to everything.

LOL!

Not a big change in treatment. I'm to try some Clarinex™ samples and see if I like that any more than Claritin™ and then go from there. This just confirms that I need to be on something year round, which should reduce the number of head colds and other complications. I'm annoyed that I have to take meds in the first place, but better that than just willy-nilly dealing with symptoms.

The next step is to look and see how I can reduce my contact with some of the allergens. We have air filters, for when the apartment finally switches to AC, and I suppose I can get that bedding stuff that keeps the dust mites out. I'll research it, as a good lawyer, and see what I can find.
