So, after seeing the movie this afternoon I dragged Mr.
lioncub with me over to
Lush. My cousin, the ever-lovely
eyow, has been after me to visit them for ages now, ever since I complained about having to finally abandon The Body Shop (who shall not be linked as we do not wish to give them any more business).
Was very, very impressed with what I found.
First, they tell you up front which products are vegan and which are not. No having to guess. No having to pore over the labels. Just shopping. The web site is even better than the store - they print "vegan" beside each product (the store gave us a little newspaper guide to products which lists all ingredients, uses, and, where applicable, two different symbols - one indicating vegan and one indicating whether the product contained glitter; that was my one and only complaint - that they didn't just put "vegan" or "glitter" right on the signs for the products on the shelf and made you use their paper, which was distracting). That had to have been one of the nicest parts of shopping there, that they told you up front.
Got some small bottles, a
shampoo and a
conditioner, and decided to get a
bath bomb as well. We'll see how they do. I did like, too, that you could choose between different sizes and didn't have to get the "one size fits all" extra-huge sized product. That had been one of the things I loved about the old Body Shop, that they had small bottles to try (and use for travel!), before they went to the one-size approach.
Richard picked up two
solid shampoos as well as the free
shampoo tin to carry one in. We'll see how those work, and if they're good, try some more.
They had a lot of solid soaps and shampoos that you could either buy cut already or have them cut off a large chunk right there. Looked almost like a gourmet
cheese shop with all the large blocks and wheels of soap about.
Altogether a fun shop. Looking forward to trying the stuff we bought.
