Sleepless in DC

Can't sleep for some reason tonight. Means no run in the morning, but that's okay, I'll live. I'm fatigued, but the sleep's just not coming tonight. It's warm here; I turned the fan on to get some air circulating. Don't dare open a window because it's supposed to rain, and the breeze would disturb the vertical blinds besides, making more noise than the cooler air was worth. Alarm's already set for later than usual. Hopefully the sleep will come soon, I'm not meant for sleepless nights any more.

I once was blind...

Perhaps it was a result of the lack of sleep, perhaps of the new glasses which I obtained last night (they managed to fix the left lens correctly this time), but the Metro seemed to be full of beautiful and fascinating men (with the caveat that what is beautiful is not always fascinating, and vice-versa). Lots of lookers, lots of looks.

Had that experience that is typical of new glasses for those of us who are near-sighted: I looked out my window this morning, randomly, and suddenly noticed that there were individual leaves on all those trees on the other side of the park. And the young man coming out of his house, across from my building on my way to the bus stop, had a container sore bag. And I could see the other end of the Metro car clearly again. Is odd to be able to see again. You hardly ever miss the impressions, they fade so gradually, but when they come back it's almost like a punch to the guts: you mean this is what I've been missing? How could I have been, if you'll pardon the expression, so blind?
