Why yes, I did just spend half an hour this morning cleaning up bookmarks on my computer. I had a catch-all folder I simply called "Junk" and it really had become exactly that. Lots of knitting things, lots of small shopping sites, some grooming stuff, and other stuff that's not easily classifiable. It had grown to the point where I couldn't really find things in there, so I split it up this morning, and deleted non-working links and links that were no longer of interest. Four new, smaller folders (Grooming, Knitting, Finance & productivity, and Shopping) were created, so now hopefully I can actually find the knitting links I was looking for earlier when I started this process.

Definitely better than reading the news this morning.

Last day of the first week at work, and back to my normal 9:30ish to 6ish schedule. Apparently they're super casual about adjusting your arrival and departure times, as long as you're getting your work done, so I have carte blanche to move up my arrival if I want to leave earlier. Or do 'credit hours' during the week (work later one day so I can leave earlier on another). My old place was kinda casual about it, but you had to check in first. No checking in, just do it here. Definitely a different work culture.

No work iPhone yet. I realized when I was talking to someone about the strangeness of not having a work mobile phone that I've had one for longer than I haven't had one, in my gubm'nt career. I got my first blackberry back in the second Bush administration, like maybe 2006ish? So of the 21 years I've been there, almost 14 have been tethered. And I miss it, mainly for being able to check my calendar for meetings and meeting locations.

Also, who knew that LJ had two mascots and that one of them was a cabbage? I remember Frank the Goat, but this Mr. Kapusta is a new thing to me. Also, why a cabbage?

Made it through the first week, albeit a short one. Still not quite sure what all I'm actually doing, as their practice is very different from my previous agencies, but I'm enjoying the ride so far.

Spent the afternoon today taking a bunch of mandatory trainings, and knitting while they played. Did so after most people had left early, as seems to be the culture there, so it wasn't like anyone questioned the knitting. Not something I would have every gotten to do before. And hey, I've learned about records management and whistleblower protections for the umpteenth time.

My limited interactions with program staff has mostly been putting them off until I can chat with my predecessor next week. Except for one easy question about some limited funding.

The husband returns from California tonight. Staying up late to get him at the airport, so here's hoping there's no delays for the flight.
