Called Discover, got them to lower the rate on that card. Yay.

Sears, on the other hand, will not lower the rate because it's a "prime rate plus a usurious amount" type of card. I will look into a balance transfer there in about 3-6 months just to get the rate down. Never, never, never get a store account.

The nice thing about dealing with my cards was that they all, save Sears, said that I could call back in 6 months and probably get the rate lowered again. This would be a good thing, though I still don't rule out transfering them all out if I can get a better interest rate elsewhere.

Then went through Quicken and updated all of my credit cards, credited payments to the right place so the balances there and the balances online match (including the two zero balance cards). Sobering, but good to see.

Now if I could just find the blinkin' CD for Quicken I'd run the debt reduction thingum and calculate some new payment amounts. Will continue to hunt for that.

Also went through and updated my student loans in Quicken. Depressing to think I'll be paying for law school for the next 30 years, but hey, 'twas an investment that is now finally paying off (with the new job and the promotion potential), so will try to think of it that way. More depressing is to see the total amount of the school debt added up together. Eeck!

All in all a good thing to do. Now I need to focus on getting my credit reports and getting all my father's stuff (that'd be Moose, Sr. - we share the same name but for the roman "II" at the end of mine) taken off the report. Stoopid credit agencies and their non-compliance with the need to tie accounts to social security numbers.

So, am in better shape than I was at the beginning of the week. Two of five cards paid off, paid off my last medical debt two months ago, and have a better, more complete picture of my finances. The control freak asserts control, finally. ;-)
