Widower

Poor lioncub was a video game widower today. I managed to spend pretty much the entire day, after my bout of cleaning this morning, playing Neverwinter Nights. The good news is, I'm on to Chapter three of the game. The bad news is I'm as addicted as ever.

This is why I haven't bought it yet. :)

(I did quite enjoy the week or so I spent playing Planescape: Torment but then I decided I was getting absolutely nothing done otherwise and so I've put it aside for the time being... and don't even talk to me about my Sims addiction I had a couple of years ago when it first came out.)

And that's what I'm playing, too. :) Although ever since my cleric hireling learned spells she's been annoying as all, insisting on babbling uselessly behind me instead of smacking down on some bad guys. ;-p

Don't do it! I had bought Baldur's Gate and not liked it, was wasn't sure how much I'd get into this one. Eeck! It's like a black hole, sucking away my life! ;-)

Tommy the thief is the best hireling...until you get supa-powerful and can destroy a chest in one blow...then you get the barbarian or the other evil monk and kick some major ass.

Any of the spellcasters suck, because until you get Undrentide... you can't really control them and stop them from casting spells.

Hirelings

I've found Linu to be pretty good because she'll do the healing thing, plus the occasional useful zap of undead critters. But I swear, the only reason I get into half of these chests is because I have the gloves which give me some electrical damage, which is the only damage either of us does, and that's teeeedious.

I got to the beginning of Chapter 3 and shut it down last night before lioncub killed me. ;-) Am looking forward to Undrentide and Hordes (I bought the gold edition that includes Undrentide and lioncub bought me Hordes before he realized what a time suck this was going to be for me *grin*).

Once you get Ki hits, and you increase your strength to 18 or more... you'll be able to open chests in a couple of hits.

When you get to HotU, become a Monk/Palemaster. The combination rocks. Your monk really starts to kick some ass then.

I keep thinking when I have more time, I'll start over and try the DragoN Disciple route with a bard or sorceror. They look pretty damned cool.

Oh well.

Since I chose to be a wizard I used the big half orc dude, although I forget his name. Between the hireling, summoning a familiar (black panther) and summoning an undead, I always had 3 others to go off fighting while I hung back and cast spells or fired arrows. Fun stuff.

My main gripe is that they didn't have the hirelings actually remember you from chapter to chapter. In each chapter it was like they met you for the first time... blah...
