Okay, I can tell today is going to draaaaag along. I've been here for over an hour and the day has gone soooo slow. Perhaps the 11:00 meeting will help pass the time better than research into government (non-tax) debt collection procedures.

Does remind me of a story, though. At my last Big Government Agency we switched to a new accounting system the last 2.5 years I was there. That allowed us to make electronic payments to vendors (no more checks, just send it directly to their accounts - much easier all around). Well, it seems that if you do business with the federal government, and you get electronic payments through the Treasury, but you owe money (taxes, other debts), the Treasury will deduct what you owe from any payments we make. So one of the first vendors one of our field offices paid owed a big chunk of back taxes. He was a bit put out that his $2k+ payment was deposited in the amount of $19.00. ;-) That's what you get for not paying your taxes, buddy. When it comes to dealing with the federal government, it's Caveat vendor.

Get to ask the boss to go take two videotape classes for my continuing legal education requirement for the Virginia bar. Whee. The classes are, for me, a total waste of my time and energy. But there's a very large lobby for the things down in Richmond, which makes a great deal of money off of lawyers who need these credits, so I don't see it changing.
