Starving kitties

My cats have gotten fat. It took them a while - they've been with us since 2013 - but the constant presence of kibble now weighs them down. So after seeing
susandennis posting pictures of the Catit Senses 2.0 Food Tree for her own beasties I decided to try that route for them. It's supposed to slow them down by making them work for their food. So far they are not impressed.
The husband was packing last night and this morning for a work trip, and said packing coincided with the arrival and set up of the food tree, which I think may have triggered their "we're traveling and so the human has removed the food" instinct, because Benjamin has been all over me like white on rice. Fussing, head butting, nuzzling, tagging my ankles as I walk by, etc. And if I'm in the kitchen, he's in there staring at me, all wide eyed and cute looking, like he's in a cartoon. But heaven forfend he reach a paw in and move some kibble down. Instead he's just fussing at me from the kitchen while I right this. Of course, this is the same cat who would stare at me to shake the old gravity feeder rather than swipe a paw to make more food fall into the bowl, so I shouldn't be surprised.
Ezri will be a mystery on the thing, as she does not like others to be present (either Benjamin or one of the humans) while she dines. She's a delicate flower that way.
I suspect they'll work it out, but be especially fussy while they do. At least Benjamin will. Ezri will likely learn it quickly and then have to fight her brother off when she knocks some down. But hopefully that'll teach him to fend for himself? Or he'll just continue to be lazy. Either way, he'll eat less.

Cats r weird.
