If you had a sore on your tongue, a little taste bud that stuck up above the others and hurt like the dickens, would you:

1. medicate it (which might take a day or two to get the little thing to go away);

2. cut the little bugger off (not terribly painful, blood stops in a few minutes, almost instantaneous pain relief);

3. do nothing, and let it heal on its own (takes several days to a week).

Which would you choose?

I'd say #1. There's a nice product called oragel (I think) that'll numb it out quite nicely.

I get those too. Yes, I do believe it is one of the ways herpes will manifest itself (not like that means anything seeing as how 90% of the population has at least one form of that little bugger). Anyway, I'd say cut them off (I've done that before) but be careful, because it's so easy to cut way too deep. Also, sticking your tongue in something scalding hot (like your morning tea) will usually deaden things up a bit long enough for them to heal.
