I usually beat them all by beating them all up in previous incarnations of the Civ series, but then again, it was soooooooo much easier to beat them to the punch, get all the good techs early, and then crush them mercilessly.

They've made it much, much too hard to do that in this version. :)

I remember loving the original civilization, but I haven't really played it since I was introduced to Master of Orion II, Master of Magic, and Alpha Centauri. Not that I'm some sort of speculative fiction freak or anything ;)

Would it be worth it to go back to the just-plain-ol-civ genre? =)

Civ3 is sooo much more nuanced than the earlier civs were. It was simple to beat everyone up in Civ2 (and in Civ1, for that matter). Not so in this version, this one makes it much more difficult to win, even at earlier levels.

I still love Alpha Centauri - much easier to crush your enemies in that one. ;)

I still only have the first version... I can beat it every time, but theres STILL a great rush about it when the game ends and all the heads of the leaders youve destroyed line up on the wall... WHAT a power trip!

that is the only way i have beat it before, that game got really hard... and it is so sad when i got like the second from the bottom rating... man. after all that work.
