Freaky point of the evening: Phone rings, I pick it up, and the guy on the other end is speaking what sounds like Cantonese. Instinct kicks in and I blurt out ®Ș? (shenme - "what?") . Mistake. He asks, in Mandarin, if I speak Mandarin, I say yet, still trying to figure out who he is, and then he starts the sales pitch for MCI long distance. In Chinese.

Weird. Never had a telemarketer call me in another language. :-p

The thing that I love about my job is I'm the answer man at work. People have a question and they come to me and I get to help them.

The thing that I hate about my job is I'm the answer man at work. People have a question and instead of looking it up, they come to me and I have to help them.

1. The resident services manager of my building is a bitch ("I know you're not soliciting in the building" when I asked her if she lived in the building as a prelude to asking her to sign the petition).

2. This gets easier in time (asking for signatures).

3. There are some people who will just grill you (or just talk you ears off) on how you feel about everything and anything, even if this office can't do a damned thing about it. ;-)

21 of 25 needed (still want to get 40), so one whole sheet completed. Will probably spend some time out on Saturday as well.

P, the two cookbooks I'd recommend were: The Starving Students' Cookbook, and The Starving Students' Vegetarian Cookbook, both by Dede Hall. Both are good, simple cookbooks with a minimum of ingredients and equipment needed to cook the meals. The addition of lists of equipment needed for each recipe is a good feature, too. Good luck!
