Freaky point of the evening: Phone rings, I pick it up, and the guy on the other end is speaking what sounds like Cantonese. Instinct kicks in and I blurt out ®Ș? (shenme - "what?") . Mistake. He asks, in Mandarin, if I speak Mandarin, I say yet, still trying to figure out who he is, and then he starts the sales pitch for MCI long distance. In Chinese.

Weird. Never had a telemarketer call me in another language. :-p

ld companies covet 'minority' customers. a friend of mine somehow got into the latino program, and switched between two or three carriers. it was a pain, but they got all their service basically free for over a year.
