Okay, found the answer to the "not during the day" question earlier.

Seems there is no official EEO special emphasis program for queers, so this is something sponsored not by my Big Government Agency (BGA) but by the pride organization, a private group of employees not officially affiliated by the BGA.

I suppose we should be happy the second in charge of the BGA is even showing up, then, much less speaking. *roll eyes*

I could care less if they have them or not. In fact, in many ways they're a waste of time and (government) money, and I rarely attend any of them because of that. The issue for me was more that if they're going to have one, that all groups be treated equally; if you're going to interrupt the work day for one, interrupt it for all.

all that EEO stuff at work is incredibly annoying ... sure, you can give us training once in a while on how to tolerate diversity of all kinds, but otherwise all that Asian-Pacific American Month stuff has got to go ...

At my agency we have sponsored things for each group once a month, mainly ethnic, with something we funded on whatever culture, ethnic food, etc. I don't mind, really, and I don't mind classifying ethnic groups in a different category for this sort of thing. I have imagined "What sort of [stereotypical] 'ethnic' cuisine, precisely, would we have for 'Gay Month'?"

"Yes, and in our culture, our diet mainly subsists on these deLIGHTful little canapes, try one, they're faaaaabulous," etc.
