Gave 'em back the modem, they're still not happy. Because I was living in the apartment, they still want the $59.01 out of me.

I don't think so.

But if they won't budge, this is my only option for a decent speed connection.

I am not pleased.

Two calls to the last number I have for B, still no answer. And this was the better of the two roomies. Grrrrr.

what possible legal claim could they have for saying that because you are in that apartment you now owe them the money? Just because you both lived there at the same time is completely irrelevant. Everything was in his name, it makes it solely his responsibilty. They should send it off to collections and be done with it. If you move out of there do they expect the next tenant to take care of it? How utterly ridiculous!

Go over their heads and get a hold of a main company office, not a local office and scream them stupid.

I am. A friend of a friend works for their "trouble" unit and now has the information to get this resolved. Hopefully it'll get fixed quickly, otherwise I start lodging complaints with the Corporation Counsel's office (the DC equivalent of the State's Attorney).
