My office mate and fellow torturee here at the Big Gov't Agency just announced her resignation. Her last day is tomorrow.

Thankfully the new hire a position that was vacated LAST YEAR! has her final interview Monday and should be able to start a month from then at the latest.

Tell me about it. Yet another person is leaving my section tomorrow. You can tell that the rest of us are wondering whether to cut bait or stick it through till at least the next administration.

i am honestly curious why one does stay in that type of situation- is it personal support of the agency's mission? job safty? other benefits?

At least in my section, the ones of us who are staying are staying, at least in part, because we're terribly afraid of the types of people that we think they'd replace us with. Again this is just with respect to my particular workplace, but most of us can get much higher paying jobs elsewhere. We just don't want ideologues (or, at least, ideologues who we disagree with ;-) to be put here in place of us. At least right now the politically appointed people have to hear (and deal with) what us career types think is illegal; if they filled the empty positions up with yes-people, they wouldn't.
