So, Mom sends me the link to get into photos of my cousin's wedding (which I somehow never received an invite for... I think it was implied in my parents' invite, but whatever). Look over the photos, and send back a one-line email to Mom:

"The wedding cake was brown?!?!?!?!?!"

Who else would care about the color of the cake over everything else. ;-)

A lot of my relatives assume that if they invite my mother (or even add my name to her invitation) that I would show up to stuff. I haven't lived there for 4 1/2 years and they have my address. My rule of thumb is that if I don't personally get the invitation, I'm not going. Their loss.

And I agree... a brown cake at a wedding?

Uh.. what's wrong with brown?

Okay... My wedding cake was brown.

Instead of your traditional (and overly sweet) white cake with buttercream icing, I had a spice cake with whipped cream icing. It was decorated with real flowers and was totally scrumptious!

Of course, there were issues. We had an outdoor reception in May. The icind din't stand up well to the temperatures and moisture but it still tasted yummy... We also didn't end up eating the top at our 1 year anniversary because it was stored in a friends freezer. He offered it back to us after about a year and a half but we passed.

A brown cake? I have seen a lot of wedding cakes in my lifetime to last several decades. (Gram makes wedding cakes for people, she's been doing it since I was a wee tot.) Even my mom's last wedding cake was white, and this was her third one.

okay um ew....one, chocolate cake is nasty, two, who wants a two or three tiered turd colored wedding cake?

that's just not pretty.

i've seen white, cream, and very pale pastel wedding cakes (and one the color of a tiffany's box) but never brown.

Okay, we'll have to put the smackdown on John and Christi for that one then...but it really was a small wedding. Maybe 50 people at the ceremony, and the *shortest* wedding ceremony I've ever been to. Ray says it was 11 minutes from when Christi started walking down the aisle to when they left.

And hmph. The cake was chocolate and yummy.

I've gotten fat.

I wish you could have been there too...Christi's brother Jim is a hoot. He was also her only attendant (she called him her "Butler of Honor" as she didn't think that "Maid" was appropriate *g*). Veda (mom's sister) was there, and kept insisting that Jim is gay, although John says he's not. Whatever. :)
