Well, I'd already stood him up, so I suppose he sobered up and wandered off.

He has historically been an annoyingly elusive character. There's an entire faction of fools who, having given up on finding him, are convinced that he'll "come back" one day. That seems to me the height of folly, tantamount to a white trash wife nursing her black eye alone in her trailor, thinking vaguely, "Bubba will be back. He hasn't really left for good. Oh, how I miss that man o' mine..."
