Unscheduled

Hmmm. According to the OPM Washington, D.C. Operating Status Page, we're now on "Unscheduled Leave" status, meaning we can decide not to go to work because of the snow.

Which means most of my coworkers will be out today because they live in the middle of nowhere and don't want to commute in. Or they just want the extra day off.

The question becomes, do I stay home, or do I go to work. Hmmmmmmm...................

Joy. My boss just came over for her lunch break (the woman never EATS!) from training at our DC field office. Is good to be here to get the brownie points for coming in, but other than that I'm answering phone calls and doing a little research.

To hear you Yankees tell it, at the first hint of snow you should hit a bunker down here and not emerge again until it's history. ;-) It's somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 inches here, I think.

That's nothing up here. Around this area, you'd be expected to pla non that and still be to work on time. My mother lived in Kansas for a year for work and if they even go an inch of snow, the whole city shut down.

I live 5 minutes from a metro, and work is 3 minutes away. So, I'm at work. I'm leaving early today, though. I've just fallen in love--with my new MP3 player. We're gonna have an intimate evening.

By the way, do you have MP3s of the new Thievery Corp cd? (Look at me, ready to break da law)

I live about a 10-15 minute walk from that same Metro (I think; Columbia Heights?), so I hauled it in here, albeit late.

I have a few MP3s from the latest CD, found off Kazaa Lite. It's nice and mellow, I like it (I have the CD here at work).

Ok so I'm pissed off...I drug my ass outta bed, schlepped the whole three blocks to work (we follow the feds even though we're a non-profit) and not even an hour and a half later, DC's notorious exploding manholes (this one at 22 and Mass) cut the power in the neighborhood. Needless to say, we ended up closed.

On a random note, have you noticed how its not "unscheduled leave" Last time we had this issue it was "liberal leave." I guess only democrats could have taken the day off then.
