1. Once you've had a drink or two, slurring in your speech becomes much normal. Especially when said speech is sign language (I so want to take a sign language course).

2. Getting a whole room full of (local, neighborhood) politicians together can be a wicked fun time.

3. Getting a smaller group of the same together for dinner can be even more fun. Especially because they don't mind it when you call the manager over and tell him (calmly and politely) that the dinner upstairs at Red Sage was wonderful, the service was great, but that you would have been perfectly happy to have spent three times as much on dinner downstairs had they had a single entree on the downstairs menu that was vegetarian.

4. Lobbying is fun.

5. Being lobbied is even more fun.

Sign language is the single best course I ever took. I use it when I least expect it.

I have several friends who sign, so it's a useful skill. I'm still not very good at fingerspelling, but when I get the chance to practice (inebriated or otherwise) I do improve. ;-) Last night was fun, it was good to see the boys.

I first studied it seriously to help sign at leather functions. It's also very useful to help you get that really hot deaf guy that no one will talk to because they don't know how...*grin*

"Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner" here in the District of Columbia. More info on ANCs to be seen here. We handle local, neighborhood issues, the typical uber-local stuff that a city council would handle but for the size of the city here (traffic, trash, rat abatement, etc.).
