*sigh*

I shall use them, of course, and not toss them or the like, but I suppose I need to further explain to them the concept of not using any animal products in any way at all. :-/

Back when I did the vegetarian thing, there was one thing I realized. You're doing it for you, not for them. You can't expect others to conform their likes and choices to you. You can mention it to them, but don't lecture. If they forget, chalk it up to forgetting.

I thought the hardest was going out to someone's house for dinner. (a problem I still have when I want to eat healthy.) I guess the key is not to think of it as being untrue to your morals, but to being a good person to your relatives/friends.

Sounds kind of like the time I gifted a pair of shoes a vegan friend of mine said he liked the looks of, without even THINKING that not eating meat might mean not wanting to wear skin... He was nice and kept them though...not sure if he ever wore them.

Although I can see how your parents would think of the slippers as a cute gift..."Our son legalmoose...moosehide slippers! Moose and moose!" *parental clap of hands*

i feel for you, the fact that i don't eat beef or pork is a hard enough concept for family and friends to grasp at times.

then again the slippers are still a better gift than the horrid pink night gown my soon to be mother in law bought for me on her last shopping spree.
