Ah, Bureaucracy
Dec. 30th, 2002 10:00 amAm on the phone with the Mayor's Call Center [(202) 727-1000] to report some stuff. It's amazing how one particular item is getting lost in the shuffle of "who's on first."
The conundrum, in a nutshell, is that when it snows the school system has not been cleaning the sidewalks outside Lincoln Junior High, which is on the way from Mt. Pleasant to the Metro at Columbia Heights. The school is undergoing renovation, so no one is there, so no one is thinking about the sidewalks. I've been trying for weeks to get someone to call me back on this, and I think I've finally been given over to the Superintendant's office (which, if I get an answer, will be the place I call again should they not be cleaned again, if/when it next snows).
It's a minor thing, but you know, we're paying taxes for this service, the law says it has to be cleaned, and I want to feel like I'm not going to fall on my ass when I walk to the Metro in the snow.

It could be worse...
