Fog, fire fall!

Yes, dialup. At a 26.4 connection (not even 28.8!). Ugh.
There was a fire in my building last night. I'm fine, the cats are fine, no one was injured (though if I get my hands on the idiot who dropped whatever it was down the trash chute...).
The cable connections, however, which happen to be in the same room as the trash chute, were melted to a lovely bit of nothingness. So, no cable modem, no high speed nothin', and I finally broke down and got ye olde dialup modem back out just now to post this.
The fire likely started sometime around 3:30. The alarm started going off at 3:40. At 3:43, people came pounding on the door to let us know it was the real thing (not a bad thing consider most times the alarm goes off it's a false alarm). Got up, got dressed, got the cats into carriers, and out we went. Was pretty ugly, lots of smoke. They let us back in at 4:15, but the alarm proceeded to go off for another 1/2 hour. Joy. Add that to the cats needing a lot of reassuring when we got back in, and I got no sleep. So, stayed home, napped, cleaned, did laundry, napped more. Not exactly the way I would choose to take a day off, but so be it.
