Definitely summer now. Saw lightning bugs last night, swatted a mosquito this morning (west nile! west nile!). The bugs have arrived, so is definitely summer.

Where are lightning bugs anymore? Guess maybe all the kids of the East caught 'em all.

And I guess all the kids on Long Island from the 1980s caught 'em all....and thought it was cool to step on them, kill 'em, and drag 'em on the cement...

:-D

My little siblings in the late 70s-early 80s would catch them, wait for them to glow, then crush the glowing parts and smear the bioluminescense over their faces like warpaint.

Are lightning bugs the same as fireflies? I see lots of fireflies here at night. Blip blip. They're really little UFOs. Like in Batteries Not Included.

We've had bugs since the snow melted mid-may. It's certainly shifty that they don't arrive in America until July.
