Miffed

I am moderately miffed this morning. I'd be more so, but I've been sitting here calming myself down.

Got all ready for a swim workout, got all my stuff together and got my sweaty self down to the YWCA to discover they were closed. There was a little sign, down at about the level of a 4 year-old, announcing that they'd be closed from the 28th through the 6th for "annual maintenance". I don't recall seeing such a sign last week, nor was I reminded of this via email or from one of the folks who checks you in and hands you towels. To say I was pissed would have been an understatement.

Thankfully I keep a towel in my office for the work gym, so I was able to come in and get cleaned up for work.

Checked the Y's web site and there's no notice of the closing. There is text saying you should check the "Holiday Closing page" for updated hours of operation, but then there's no link to such a beast.

I am so, so very not pleased at them. Enough so that I've been trying to look for other gyms in DC with pools, but you'd be surprised at how difficult it is to find any gyms online, aside from, say, Resluts (and yes, I spelled it that way on purpose - it has a reputation), Sports & Health or other big gyms (none of which seem to have indoor pools). Hell, the YWCA doesn't even come up on a search! Did find the Waterside Fitness and Swim Club, which is across the way from [livejournal.com profile] heterodoxy's apartment, but it's only an 18-meter pool, not the standard 25 (why would you make it less than the standard?). Feh.

Did you call Loew's???

As I mentioned last week, the Loew's L'Enfant Plaza has a pool (I thought it was indoor but I'm not sure) and they have membership rates. A good friend of mine here goes there to work out.

Check them out!

Yeah, tell me about it. I moved across town and now I'm a 20-minute drive from my nice little (though expensive) gym with a year-round pool (dome-covered in colder months). I would like to stay there, but frankly I've only gone there a couple of times in the last two weeks since I moved. None of the other gyms around here have pools, as far as I can tell. :(

I just finished this process - the pool near Bug's house is part of a small company with a handful of local gyms - the Thomas Circle Sport Club is one of them. I almost joined there.

I went with Gold's instead because I don't use a pool enough - though I might have considered the Y. Someone, maybe DoubleJoe, mentioned the WSC in Pentagon City may have a pool.

Why are pools so rare around here?

Drop me a line if you ever want to go running - I'll bust you out of that 12 min/mile rut. ;)
