Security Guard: Hello, Woodner Front Desk.
legalmoose: Hi, is there a fire in the building? There's a smoke smell up here on the 12th floor, though no visible smoke...
SG: Well, the fire department just arrived, they're checking it out, but they're not evacuating the building yet.
LM: Oh, okay, thanks.
;-p
Not the conversation you want to be having just as you're trying to get to sleep, ya know?
[edit]
Stepped outside, checked with the firemen, it's a trash chute fire, but they appear to have it under control. Whee.

Date: 2004-11-30 03:40 am (UTC)a) I hear fire engines (which I did last night); or
b) there's a guard (or someone else) pounding on doors telling folks it's the real thing.
Of course, that was easier when I lived on the 5th floor with a straight shot down my hall to the side parking lot (floors 1-4 are below street level in the park). :) I haven't had to evacuate from the 12th (top) floor yet. *knock wood*
