[nitpicking]

Yes, folks, the jury has recommended that Peterson get the death penalty.

That does not mean, however, that he has received a death sentence.

The judge still has to impose the sentence upon the defendant, and while it is likely he will follow the jury's recommendation, there are other factors he can look at it to mitigate the sentence to something less than death.

Once he's pronounced the sentence in court, and it's death, then you can say that Peterson's received the death penalty. However, until that is done, he's not been sentenced.

Wait. I thought it was:
  • Now — The jury has recommended the death sentence but he has not yet received his sentence (just the verdict)
  • Once the judge says "You're gonna die, sucka!" — He has received the death sentence
  • Once they off him — He has received the death penalty
Or am I confused?

and even if he is sentenced to death he's going to spend years messing with the appeals process. i'll just be glad that he's going to spend a very very long time stuck in a jail cell.
