Grammar Nazi Strikes Again
Feb. 4th, 2005 04:22 pmComments I just made on a memo we had to review before it went over to Congress:
How much do we pay the people who wrote the original?
If it's countable, it's "fewer," not "less." We have fewer staff, but we have less work.
Subject and verb should agree. "It will continues..." does not agree. Also, make sure the tenses match. "It has request..." doesn't match.
If you start numbering something (i.e., a, b, c... or 1, 2, 3...), continue with the pattern through the entire list, or get rid of the numbering scheme.
Don't make up words. We are "providing incentives to" someone, not "incentivizing" them. side note: this was probably the worst one of the batch to have to point out. *shudder*
While "assuming" personnel might work in some sentences when you mean that they are being taken into another office, where it's not clear at the beginning that this is what's happening, use "absorbing" instead.
