Any of you who are more familiar with Word (I'm a WordPerfect kinda guy, as most attorneys are in my experience), are there ways to disable the following really, really annoying Word habits:

1. Asking for permission to delete a large block of text using the delete key (versus using the backspace, which doesn't ask permission, for whatever reason).

2. Pressing "Home" to take you to the beginning of a line, instead of having to hit "Home" and then "<--" (left arrow).

Thanks.

1. No idea. Mine doesn't do that. I'll look a little more and see if I can find it.

2. Pressing "Home" to go to the beginning of a line is the default for any Windows app. I'm so used to it that I forgot the old WP did it (I haven't used WP since the days of DOS WP5.1!). But I found it:

Found under Tools -> Options.

Heh, and of course the only reason Word is dominant - is that Microsoft didn't release key parts of the Windows API until they secured marketplace dominance. So Wordperfect couldn't properly compete.

Tis a shame since I could always get stuff to layout properly(and be revised without it falling apart) in WP. Word :still: has problems with text flowing around images.

If the word document was "protected" you'll have to go to the original author of the document to have them turn it off if it's enabled and passworded. If not, go to tools and look for protect document and make sure it's unprotected.
