To the DC Office of Tax and Revenue,

I received my tax return form in the mail today, it having been sent back with a note attached claiming that there was an error in the return. The particular box checked reads: "The withholding amount shown does not match wage statement(s)." I find this puzzling, since there are two W2 forms attached to my return, one of which had $584.00 withheld, the other of which had $5,169.00 withheld. When those two amounts are added together, the sum is $5,753.00, which is the number I put on line 11, "Total DC Income Tax Withheld," on the D-40EZ form. I can only surmise that the employee who prepared my form either a) did not see one of the two W2 forms, or b) cannot add. I am hoping it is the former, and not the latter.

Please reprocess my form and take note of the two W2 forms attached. If you have any questions, I can be reached at the number indicated on the DC-40EZ form.

Sincerely,

Moose *&^)

Hmmm...

DC Government + Math

Isn't that a bit like teeth & penis? They don't belong in the same sentence.

O damn...that's freakin horrible. Your reply is much better than mine would've been in that situation (though I doubt I'd actually have put anything extremely caustic on paper...the people around me would have to clean their ears out, tho). Here's to a speedy return:)
