Well, as promised, I rode down to the Hill today to Capitol Hill Bikes to get clipless pedals. Settled on Speedplay Frogs for the "play" they had (the ability of the foot to swivel around the axis of connection). Didn't want sore knees, so went with these. Also got Specialized Mountain Bike Shoes (and no, I didn't pay that much for them - I think I got last year's model, but the same basic shoe).

So far, so good. Contrary to what's normally said about newbies in clipless pedals, I had no problems getting out of the pedals. Getting in is still a trip, but out is easy so far.

Heart rate is still up from all the riding (45 minutes or so there, 47 back, with a slight detour of 15 minutes or so while I stopped by work to hit the credit union ATM), but it's a good feeling. Hopefully won't be too wonked for tomorrow morning's bike maintenance class at the Point, but I can always metro home if need be.

So, and be-pedaled, and I have to say, I understand now why people recommend the clipless pedals. It was such an easier ride once I got used to them, and had so much more power/speed, even heading into the wind (which seemed like the entire ride - the damned wind kept shifting, and is hard out there today). Very nice. Need to readjust my bike some, though - I kept finding myself sliding back on the seat, so at a minimum I need to adjust that back a few centimeters. Otherwise, all is good.

And that's pretty much all I've done today. ;-)
