It says that they "threw out the conviction." Does that mean this was a mistrial (which means that they can do it again, right?), or does this mean that the defendant walks free?
I wish someone reading this journal were a lawyer, so we'd have a professional opinion on this . . .
Gee whiz, even those expensive downtown lawyers will give you the first 6 minutes for free, just to try them out. Did this take you more than 6 minutes, or don't you do that?
Anyway - I guess I should have read the contract more carefully before I signed. Your check is in the mail.
Hmmm. *knocks wood* Same here. DC Superior court got me right at the two year mark, but no with DC District court yet. Strange, given the usual complaints about a lack of a viable jury pool in DC.
I believe the comment I made the last time someone asked me why I was not excluded from service as an attorney was, "They already exclude felons in DC, if they excluded attorneys, too, there'd be no one else left in the District to serve." :-D
I always fill out the form they sent, because it says something to the effect that they can subpoena you or something and force you to fill it out, but then its time to send the thing off and it REQUIRES A STAMP (?!?!?) And well, you know, I just don't have the money for that sort of thing in my budget.
The first time they sent me one, I wrangled over it for a while... whether to send it in.... but I've got my routine down now, and haven't had any trouble over it.
