Crash

Had a wee owie on the way home this evening.

First, I zipped over to the bike shop, got the rear derailleur fixed, no cost (a cable had slipped, took the guy two seconds to go, "Oh, here it is" and pop it back in), which was quite nice of them. Got some new goo stuff (mango!) and a tire lever. Then started on the long (10.5 mile) ride home. About 17 minutes in (yes, I glanced at the watch), I was coming around a hairpin turn on the Francis Case Memorial Bridge when the inevitable happened - I fell.

Was going very slowly around, got out of balance and couldn't get my foot out of the pedal fast enough to catch myself and *boom* down I went. I think my pride was damaged more than anything else, honestly, as I was going slow enough that I just went straight down, no road rash, just a likely bruise on my left hip and perhaps the palm. Got home and the left arm is a very slight bit sore from the impact, but otherwise I'm fine. I actually laughed at the situation, and was glad the inevitable fall had finally happened, and it was minor.

Headed to bed now, then up to swim in the morning, then work, then a trip out to Bonzai Sports to pick up the wetsuit I'm renting for the weekend for our first (and only?) open water swim practice this Saturday. Whee!

We need to get you a bubblewrap suit or something for whenever you leave the house. I have never in my life met anyone more accident prone than you.

I was about to suggest body armor, or something similar. :-)

Oh, dear. You should definitely consider the bubblewrapped suit of armor approach.

See, with your luck, you'd get a sufficiently-large pothole or something and you'd wind up trapped in your bubble and unable to either move or exit.

Stories like this are why these pedal systems make me nervous. I know they're more efficient, and I really should learn to use them, but I'm sure this kind of thing will be the story of my life once I do. Lucky that you didn't injure yourself more seriously, though!
