Happy Pride & All That Jazz
Jun. 12th, 2005 05:34 pmDid the pride thing. Got my Utilikilt (black, the "survival" model, which was more than I had originally wanted to do, but the only one they had in my size - it looks good, pictures to follow, I'm sure), then we wandered around.
cubdrummer didn't get to help me with the kilt as he had another customer, but I did stop by later to chat with him again while wandering around with
xavier78.
lioncub and I wandered some with
xavier78, eventually having lunch at Teaism, then more wandering around. Saw
robgates at the Lambda Sci-Fi booth, had fun saying hello and getting tarot readings from
fritterfae and T at the Radical Fairies' booth, which was right next to Body Electric. We stopped and proselytized at the Body Electric booth, then off to the GLAA booth for a bit. Spent as much time under tents (shade!) as possible. I got some sun, but no burn (yay for sunscreen!). After a bit
gregmce joined
lioncub and I under the GLAA tent where we chatted some.
In no particular order, I also ran into:
thyesc
mascguydc (&
bigmosaywhat and
neuroticguy81)
ironmanjt and his hubby
claddah76
(and if I've forgotten someone, let me know and I'll add ya to the list!)
The one thing I did not do this year was go out looking for groups. I have enough on my plate, and didn't spend a lot of time perusing the various organizations, so not a lot of cards with web sites to check and what not (unlike last year where I have about a dozen or so sites listed under "Pride 2004" in my browser). The only card I picked up was for the Transgender Education Association, and that for my work with GLAA since we're looking at some changes to the DC Human Rights Act that are being proposed to explicitly include the transgendered under the act, instead of just having them fit under the "personal appearance" category. Is a difficult issue, but we'll work through it.
Was a fun time overall. I enjoyed getting to see a bunch of folks whom I don't see often enough ("I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." to quote Bilbo). Glad I went down.

And I MUST bless your crotches next year. :D
