I don't necessarily echo those "the sky is falling" comments -- I just think the next 6 months are gonna be nasty as hell as they try to find somebody.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive after posting an "uh oh", but I do think it's more than business as usual. But maybe that's more because---despite my academic detour---I'm more of a litigator than anything else. And I have to directly work with the opinions that comes out of this court. And the prospect of it is enough to say uh oh.

Interestingly, I had a long discussion this afternoon with one of our political appointees about nominations and the inevitable rush to guess who'll be the next nominee. It digressed into how I think, were I nominated, the press would probably focus in not on my political views, but on my earrings, much as they would the dress of a female nominee (and would they describe me as "sporting" the earrings or merely "wearing" them). Was an amusing conversation, not least because this appointee had already gotten inquiries from friends as to whether he were on the short list.

What I don't understand is the sudden rush to canonise Sandy as this great liberal saint. Her middle-of-the-road bullshit has meant a lot of really poor plurality decisions, and her opinions had a tendency to be unworkably bureaucratic.

Oh bullshit on the sandals. My sandal collection made our old-fashioned Armenian cobbler hand out compliments, and I have worn a pair to a wedding.

Just find nice, chich sandals. Same for the shorts.
