About six minutes into this morning's run I took a tumble. Had just crossed back over the one big road I have to cross because of construction near the house, and hit something with my shoe (I think?) and went down in a pedestrian island. I'm actually quite proud of how I went down, though, as I managed to keep my arms bent like a pushup, and not straight out in front of me, so the joints were able to cushion the blow and not break anything. Scraped my palms a little, and have a spot on one elbow where I grazed the curb in the middle of the pedestrian island where I fell. Also I somehow arched my back slightly so I came to rest on my stomach and managed not to scrape my legs or my face. The shirt has some small holes, and I added some more scratches to my wedding ring, but for a fall this was pretty darned lucky. Am sore this evening in the shoulders & arms, as to be expected, but nothing is pulled, nothing torn. And of course I finished the run after I bounced up and made sure nothing was broken, because I'm ridiculous like that.

Otherwise running has been going okay. I'm working the heck out of my right leg before bed every night as part of my wind-down routine, to stave off a couple of tight spots that would otherwise affect my knee. Though with today's fall I finally bit the bullet and invested in a massage gun to try and get rid of a persistent knot I haven't been able to roll out of my right quad (and to be able to loosen up my shoulders, where I tend to hold tension). That should get here Sunday, thank you Amazon.

Jumping rope off and on. Did so yesterday with one of their recovery workouts (some jumping, lots of other stretching and supportive exercises). Doubt I'll be doing so tomorrow, but hopefully will be back in shape for running on Monday.

Back again?

Went on a run/walk this afternoon, for the first time since last June. I had been dealing with some achilles & turf toe issues (both on the same foot!), and after 'resting' them for what seemed like forever, I finally got more aggressive about treating both a month or so ago. Gua sha, voodoo flossing, lots of stretching and manipulation, basically, which seems to have helped a hell of a lot more than 'rest' did. I started walking after lunch the last two weeks, prepping myself to move for half an hour after the long down time. And yesterday did a couple pick up running bits to se how it felt. Felt fine, so this afternoon I geared up and did 30 minutes of 2 minutes running, 4 minutes walking, with a 5 minute warm up and cool down walk at either end. And so far the foot is tolerating it just fine. Thank heavens.

I pulled something in the back of my right foot about a month ago, probably achilles tendon related according to Dr. Google; nothing catastrophic, just sore when it gets stretched. So I've been a bit grumpy over that, and holding off on doing a lot to make sure it can heal. Finally did a very easy bike ride on the trainer this morning, which the foot did fine with. Not so much the attempt to do a downward facing dog pose afterward, but had plenty of warning before I did any more damage there. So I have an option to stay active, even if I can't jump or run at the moment.
