Some last emails came through from the cult co-op app this morning (including one cancelling the reservation for the loading dock for move in later this month - I want to know more! but really I don't), then the app gave me the "you don't belong here" error message mid-day, so I deleted it, and the associated bookmark for the web site from my computer's browser. The check from the settlement company arrived and was promptly deposited through the bank's app. I checked the former mortgage company and got the best message screen stating that "this loan is inactive". So done, and done, and done. Hallelujah.

You'll be happy to know that the US government is actively working on things to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the country on July 4th, 2026. Or at least so I'm lead to believe based on the memorandum of understanding between the Small Gubm'nt Agency and the "Semiquincentennial Commission" that I just got for legal review. Whee.

Interestingly enough, this will not be the first Semiquincentennial celebration I'll (hopefully) be around for - my 5th year college reunion back in the previous century (1999) was also the semiquincentennial year for the school (and I find it fascinating that the school's web site does not mention what the W&L initials stand for [Washington and Lee], after the Board of Trustees voted not to remove the "L" from the name of the school earlier this year; could it be because his name is causing applications to go down? hmmm...).

In the meantime I'm looking forward to seeing how news anchors start to stumble over trying to remember/pronounce "semiquincentennial".

How much?

It seems like almost every new recipe I see for a pasta dish wants you to use 12 ounces of pasta. Do these US-based recipe authors not shop in the same stores that do? Because the norm for most boxes I see is 1 lb of pasta, or 16 ounces. You seriously want me to measure out 3/4 of a box of pasta and save the rest? Uh-uh. It's a full box or it's nothing. But thanks for playing.
