Am home this week, off from work in a fortuitous alignment of not feeling well (the voice is mostly back, but not all the way yet, and the cold is obviously still with me, he said, sniffling) and planned time off with nothing to do. The iBook is supposed to be redelivered today (*fingers crossed*), so I'll have that to play with eventually.

Drove home yesterday in driving snow, which was oodles of fun (not). Once we got past Williamsburg the snow disappeared entirely - storm didn't even make it up to Richmond, though we were shedding snow off the SUV all the way up to DC. Got in, unpacked the car, ran out to the grocery store and then back home to zombie for the evening. Was very glad we decided to go ahead and brave the snow when we found out my parents' power went out at 3 yesterday afternoon.

Both cats decided this morning was time for attention from moi. Natasha fussed at me in the bathroom until I went back to bed, snuggling her for some petting and loud purring (hers, not mine). Then Boris came in and plopped himself on top of me, which he rarely does, and laid there while I pet him some. Was nice, they were both well behaved, and obviously missed the company. Too bad they have me home all day to disturb their 22-1/2 hours of sleep. ;-)

Okay, you know it's cold out when I actually have all of the heater units on in my top floor, stays overly warm all the time apartment.

Brrr. 26 out (-3 C), feels like 14 (-10 C). Windy. It's probably the wind on our woefully inadequate 1950s windows that's doing the most damage (he said, with a lovely breeze coming in over his desk from the windows). Can't wait for those to get replaced this next year with the double-paned insulated glass.

10:18 am, Delivery attempt, WASHINGTON DC, Recipient location security delay. Delivery will be reattempted.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

[edit] Okay, they're giving me some weird song and dance about a government building security delay, which should not apply to me since I live in an apartment building. :-p Sounds like someone is using a cheap excuse to not deliver their entire route.

FedEx is supposed to call me back with more info on what the hell happened.

I am so not amused right now.

The darned thing finally got here. Seems it was a security thing - the idiot new driver didn't know he actually had to deliver all the packages to each apartment first then drop off any he couldn't get rid of in the resident services office. He thought he could just schluff the whole load off on the building management. Poor fool.

But the iBook is here and sitting on the desk. Will connect and all that fun stuff shortly, once I finish looking at all the cables and what not.

Oh, and the Timbuk2 bag (to carry the aforementioned iBook) arrived five minutes after the iBook did. Sweet!

Now if my throat would just clear up so I could breathe normally... :-/

First, which one of these LJ clients do y'all recommend for Mac OSX? 'Cause homey is not going to play with typing all this mess into the web site each time.

I've gotten the iBook set up, most of my mail accounts are set up now (I think I remembered them all...), and I managed to find the iBook on the network via my PC so I am copying my iTunes music over as we speak. I suspect, given the glacially slow progress of the status bar on the copying (it's gone up about 3 tics in not quite 2 hours of copying - eeck!) that the copying will take all night. Fun. At least it can be doing that while I sleep.

Got my phone's address book transferred over via Bluetooth. Am so looking forward to having one master Address book and not a different one for each device. Yes I'll have 10,000,000 addresses in my phone, but that's what the lookup feature is for.

Still getting used to little things like CTRL+arrow key going to the end of the row, not the end of the word (alt/option+arrow key does that). Overall a smooth transition. Once the music is copied I think I'll hold off on the other stuff like photos and the like until I have more time to play on the machine tomorrow. Going to get a copy of The Missing Sync so I can get the Palm info integrated into the native OS X applications rather than the Palm desktop, and I think I can bring my Pocket Quicken over with me to the Mac. We'll see tomorrow how and if that works.

In the meantime, I think it's bed time. Night!
